Recently I read abuot the Pinion P1 gear-box for the first time. It is a new bike gear system which is located in the bottom bracket (region). In contrast to the Schlumpf drives or similar products, we are not talking about 2 or 3 gears but 18 of them. The gears are 11.5% away from each other and the whole system covers more than 630%. The wheels are very light as they will only have to carry one pinion. Of course, this system is rather thought for upright bikes and a heavy system like this in a light noseboom would probably not be perfect. However it might be the perfect intermediate gear box and the best solution for a completely protected chain. I am looking forward to read more about this little device.

It might work well with a LWB or CLWB because it moves the weight forward which might make handling better.
I agree with you, or in a trike/VM as a low middle-positioned weight…
Maybe in a delta trike? but in a tadpole I think it will put the weight a wrong place.
Is it really so heavy ? How much does it weigth ? Integrating such a gearbox in a bent with a removable boom is much easier than in an upright bike frame that would need a complete specific redesign.
