I personally think that the majority of recumbent riders is riding recumbently because it is more comfortable. However, there is of course an active little minority which is interested in high-speeds. Therefore, Lars from Speedmachine Adventures starts a little contest.
He asks: Who is the fastest recumbent rider? What he calls BentCojones 2010 is his attempt to see whether you “have the balls to be the fastest”
The rules are easy:
- You have to ride a recumbent
- There must be a photo showing you after having reached the speed
- Further you need a photo of your bike-computer showing the number of “max speed”
- Send the location of your speeding as google-maps link to Lars
You cannot win anything but fame… Find Lars mail-address at speedmachineadventures.blogspot.com

Nice idea. Do I understand this right when I read there’s no limit on how one achieves that speed? Downhill, wind in the back or riding behind a motorcycle? As long as one pedals himself.
As far as I understood Lars, you are right…
Going downhill isn’t a test of your speed on a bent. Pedaling on a flat road would be the real test of speed and not drafting. My granny can go fast downhill. Besides that, Sam Whittingham is already the fastest at over 83 mph on a flat road
Well Dave,
it is rather kind of a fun-contest. Means, if your granny uses a recumbent, makes a photo of herself, the bike and the bike computer with the max-km/h and she sends all this with a google map link to Lars, your granny can be awarded with the bentcojones title 2010…
Bests,
chris
Well in that case, COOL! I’ll see what I can do but have to wait for the snow to melt.
